Proof and Process: A Printmaking Workshop Series 1/3
Proof and Process: A Printmaking Workshop Series 1/3
Weekly Thursdays, November 13-December 11, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. | $150 ($200 value!)
Introducing a brand new series at Otherwise, Proof and Process, where you can step into a weekly space of printmaking magic and celebrate the journey of making rather than just the final result. This 5-week workshop series is designed to inspire you to try out different types of printmaking in an experimental and judgment-free space. Starting in November, with part 2/3 of the series coming in February, Otherwise is excited to add this new programming to our schedule!
Each week, you’ll be guided through different printmaking methods, be inspired by both historical and contemporary printmaking artists, and will explore your creative voice as a printmaker.
No experience? No problem. All materials are provided, and guidance is available every step of the way. Bring a friend, or meet new ones! This is your space to learn a new skill, practice an old one, and let’s be real… just make time and space to be able to express yourself through creativity in a relaxed way.
**Note: If joining the full 5-week series is a barrier for any reason, you can also join single workshops! Please register for these workshops separately by clicking on the workshop(s) you'd like to attend and adding to your cart.
Series One | November 13 - December 11: Too Tired to Think? Let's Ink.
This series is perfect for people who are beginners to printmaking, experts who love to get experimental, and people who want a space where they can easily get lost in the meditative making process and just trust their intuition. Also built for painters and drawers alike, this series is a great place to start.
What to Expect:
-
Week 1 (November 13): Monoprinting with Water-based Inks
- Explore a painterly form of printmaking and learn how to plan, design, create, and print your monotype through the intaglio printing press!
-
Week 2 (November 20): Gelli Plate Printmaking
- Learn the art of monoprinting without a press! Compose interesting imagery using stencils, transfers, and various tools to create texture and layers on a gel plate.
-
Week 3 (November 27): Collagraphy
- Use collage as a form of printmaking and explore how using different textures and surface treatments can contribute to a beautiful print!
-
Week 4 (December 4): Single-colour Linoblock printmaking
- This workshop will go through the tools and techniques needed to design an image ready for print, carve your lino, and print your piece.
-
Week 5 (December 11): Hybrid printmaking (not available to join as solo class)
- Use your favourite forms of printmaking and combine them in this final week of the printmaking series. Explore how to properly combine different printmaking techniques and expand your creativity through a multi-media approach.
If now's now the right time, or if you're looking to learn different types of printmaking, stay tuned for part 2/3 of this series coming in February - up for registration soon.
