LITTLE PARTS

Sketched out in Toronto in Summer 2019 and completed in Guelph during the first pandemic stay-at-home order, the song “Little Parts” pauses to appreciate the cycles of dormancy and renewal within ourselves and constantly occurring all around us. The accompanying video, made up of 258 small oil paintings on paper, directly reflects lyrics of “Little Parts.” All of Aimee’s reference videos, (with the exception of Sam’s rocking chairs) were filmed in her parents’ backyard: a bird flying to the feeder, her mum’s almond bush and forget-me-nots in bloom, and bedroom curtains blowing in the wind all signaling home amidst changing seasons.

This piece reflects a feeling that Aimee and Sam have shared over the past year: the feeling of being caught up and swept away by the little things that make life meaningful, even in the midst of change and uncertainty.
