These cowgirl infused paintings are hard not to fall in love with; with the tummy tying effect of addressing difficult topics and almost hilarious colour choices, Rebecca Payne reaches into their own experiences to depict the more-so ugly side of growing up. Even if you can’t pick up what they're throwing down, you can enjoy the wild ride of electric pinks and neon greens.
“I’m currently interested in exploring the importance of ones’ daily emotional state during everyday, banal activities. A lot of the imagery focuses on the anxieties of the womanhood/adulthood with cartoonish self-doubt. Colour schemes are decided through experimentation, based on how dissociated from reality the images get.”
Rebecca will be teaching a painting workshop held at the studio on July 21!
If you want to check out more of Rebecca Payne’s work, hop over to Waterloo to the Button Factory Arts to visit “unfamiliarity”. Exhibition is up until July 20.
