The work of EMMALI BRANTON is chalked full of cheerfully sad narratives and the imagery she plays with invites us to throw our own pity party where we can celebrate being broken hearted and accept our crocodile tears together. Even though her illustrations and prints speak to feelings of loneliness and sadness, we don’t come away feeling alone but instead validated and seen.
Emmali Branton is an interdisciplinary artist based out of Hamilton, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a double major in Studio Art and English, and is still exploring all the ways those two subjects can coincide. Her recent work in graphic design has lent her an obsession with the jargon and aesthetic of sales and advertisement. With interests in language, narrative, film, found photos, parties, sorrow, and the colour pink, Emmali hopes her work tells you a story that feels both innately universal and incredibly specific.
